Michael B. Kaplowitz lives with his wife Jayne and their two daughters in Somers, NY. Elected to the Westchester County Legislature in 1998, Mike has earned a reputation as a knowledgeable and independent leader.

His education and expertise as an attorney and certified financial planner led to his appointment as Chair of the Budget & Appropriations Committee in 2003. During difficult 2002 budget discussions, Kaplowitz found a way to cut over $50 million in the proposed budget; in 2005, as Budget Chair, he was able to deliver a 0% tax levy increase. He is an aggressive supporter of tax fairness and has fought for and won tax relief for thousands of residents in the region.

Kaplowitz has a strong environmental record. He is committed to preserving the last opportunities for open space in our region and to conservation issues. He is this immediate past Chair of the Westchester County Legislature's Environmental Committee and has worked diligently to preserve local farms, ensure water quality, and keep urban sprawl in check.

In addition to serving as Chairman of the county legislature's Environment Committee and Budget and Appropriations Committee, Mike has served on the Legislature's Committees on Labor, Seniors, and Public Safety and Security. He earned his B.A. in history from the University of Pennsylvania and his J.D. from the Boston University School of Law.
